The
purpose of the Youth Friendly Workplace Designation program is to
retain Saskatchewan youth to work and live and Saskatchewan. The
following is the process of the plan to have a Youth Friendly
Workplace Designation program in place in Saskatchewan. Industry
and Resources met with the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce regarding a
study completed in 2005 for youth friendly workplaces. It was agreed
that Industry and Resources would partner with the Saskatchewan
Chamber of Commerce in developing a Youth Friendly Workplace
Designation program. A steering committee was formed with
representatives from the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce; Regina &
Region Home Builders' Association; Regina Regional Economic Development
Authority; Regina & District Chamber of Commerce; Advanced
Education and Employment; Culture, Youth and Recreation; Regional
Economic and Co-operative Development; First Nations and Métis
Relations; Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association Inc.; and
Industry and Resources. The steering committee provided input on the
research and developed a plan for the program. The Regina & Region
Home Builders' Association agreed to be the pilot group when the
program was ready to be launched. Through input from the
steering committee as well as individual meetings with committee
members, eligibility criteria for participants, an agreement, logo and
a website was developed. The program was announced on September
28, 2006, with the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce in partnership with
Industry and Resources and the Regina & Region Home Builders'
Association as the pilot association.
